Karma or Consequence?

dreamstime_xs_111661550

I like the idea of karma. It’s a comforting thought that if we put good out into the universe, we will get good back. And that those that put bad out will, hmmm, get their just desserts. (Because it’s probably not good karma to want bad things to happen to people, right?)

I believe firmly in consequences. Our actions, our words, and even our thoughts, have consequences. If we want positive outcomes, we need to take actions that will lead us to those outcomes. As a very simple example, a consequence of telling the truth is that people believe us, trust us.

I’ve been pondering the difference between karma and consequence. Or is there a difference? Are they basically the same? Both, at their cores, are based upon the concept that what we do affects what happens to us.

I don’t have an answer, but I thought this is something you might want to ponder as well.
